What is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon?
Oral surgeons (also known as oral and maxillofacial surgeons) are dental specialists. Upon graduation from college or graduate school with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree, oral surgeons are required to complete an additional 4-6 years in hospital-based training.
As the name implies, oral surgeons perform only surgical procedures pertaining to the mouth and facial structure. We perform simple and complicated tooth extractions (including wisdom teeth), dental implant placement, fracture repair in the jaws and face, removal of cysts and tumors of the jaws, soft tissue biopsies, jaw realignment surgery to correct bite discrepancies, and cosmetic and TMJ surgeries.
Furthermore, our oral surgeons are uniquely qualified to perform surgeries under a variety of anesthesia options in our office, such as general anesthesia (the best option for anxious patients who want to “go to sleep” during their procedure) and sedation dentistry for more complex procedures.
At Princeton OMS, we offer the following services:
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Third molars are also known as wisdom teeth, and they usually appear between 17 and 20 years of age. It is not uncommon for wisdom teeth to not erupt as they should, and if you have only seen partial impact or eruption of your teeth, there is a chance that you could be experiencing discomfort. If you are experiencing pain from your wisdom teeth, we can assist you. Please contact us today if you’re seeking wisdom tooth removal.
Dental Implants
Dental implants act as a foundation for replacement teeth that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Having implants can restore your confidence and comfort when eating, speaking, laughing, and enjoying life. In addition to lasting a lifetime, dental implants will not decay or affect the adjacent teeth. If you decide that dental implants are right for you, the dentist you choose to provide them is extremely important. By taking advantage of our advanced training in dental implant procedures, we ensure that you will experience less pain, a quicker recovery time, and a better smile.
Sedation Dentistry
Our goal is to make your dental treatment as comfortable as possible. To make sure you are completely relaxed during dental treatments, we offer sedation dentistry. Patients often request anesthesia for procedures such as wisdom teeth extractions, TMJ treatment, and dental implants. Sedation can be used even for minor dental procedures in cases where dental anxiety is present.
Drs. Fried and Levine are fully licensed and trained to administer sedation and general anesthesia. The surgical assistants in our offices are trained and licensed to assist in surgery, monitor patients, and aid in recovery. Safety is a priority in every aspect of our practice.
How can I get started?
